The first production version of the Automobili Pininfarina Battista made its debut on California roads. As part of a packed program of events during Monterey Car Week, the first road trip for the Battista marks the beginning of a new chapter in Automobili Pininfarina’s history.

The debut of the Battista production model will give U.S. customers their first chance to experience its 1900 horsepower and appreciate its striking Black Exposed Signature Carbon body, exquisitely crafted at Automobili Pininfarina’s manufacturing facility in Cambiano, Italy.

The arrival of the first production car also gives customers the opportunity to hear the Battista for the first time, showcasing the unique sound environment that is currently being developed for the world’s first all-electric hypercar. Following Automobili Pininfarina’s “pure sound” philosophy, the soundscape has a base frequency of 54 Hz, an organic frequency multiple of 432 Hz – known as “Verdi’s A,” coined by famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. The creators of the hypercar wanted the sound to be in harmony with the beauty of the novelty design and not similar to the sound of other cars.

According to music theory, 432 Hz is considered “mathematically compatible with the universe.” Music tuned to 432 Hz is considered a “pure sound,” complementing Battista’s clean design while providing greater clarity and an easier listening experience. Automobili Pininfarina engineers chose a frequency multiple of 432 Hz as the base frequency for the Battista, providing a distinctive and recognizable sound signature that will evoke the kind of emotional response that customers expect from a 1900 hp hypercar.

From this starting point, the frequency will increase in multiples of 54 Hz with the addition of new sound layers as the car’s speed increases. The smoothly responsive acoustics will mirror Battista’s pure electric performance, combining rich bass tones to create a signature sound.

The Battista will be the most powerful car ever designed and assembled in Italy and will provide a level of performance unattainable today for any sports road car with an internal combustion engine. Faster than a current Formula 1 race car, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds, and with 1900 hp and 2300 N⋅m of torque at the output, the Battista combines extreme engineering and zero-emission technology. The Battista’s 120 kW⋅h battery provides power for four electric motors – one at each wheel – with a WLTP range of over 500 km on a single charge. No more than 150 electric hypercars will be handcrafted at the Pininfarina SpA atelier in Cambiano, Italy.
