Mercedes-Benz is launching two new all-wheel-drive versions of the EQA electric crossover, which has become one of the most in-demand vehicles of recent introduction – the company has received more than 20,000 pre-orders since February.
Now two new versions join the model family: the EQA 300 4MATIC with 168 kW and the EQA 350 4MATIC with 215 kW, and they are likely to be more popular than the basic front-wheel-drive version of the EQA 250 with 140 kW.
The automaker says the two new all-wheel-drive EQA models can be ordered now, with prices in Germany including government incentives starting at €53,538 and €56,215 respectively.
The range according to the WLTP is 409-432 km (EQA 300 4MATIC) and 400-426 km (EQA 350 4MATIC). Later this year, a version with an “especially” high range will be available.
The front axle of the all-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz EQA models uses an asynchronous electric motor. The electric motor, fixed-ratio transmission with differential, cooling system and power electronics form a highly integrated and very compact unit: the electric powertrain (eATS).
The rear axle of the EQA 300 4MATIC and EQA 350 4MATIC uses an electric transmission with a newly developed permanent magnet synchronous motor. The advantages of such an electric motor include high power density, high efficiency and high output stability.
Mercedes-Benz claims that in these 4MATIC versions, the power demand between the front and rear axles is intelligently adjusted 100 times per second, depending on the road situation.
Mercedes-EQ’s philosophy is to optimize power consumption by using the rear electric motor as often as possible, while the asynchronous electric motor on the front axle is activated when necessary.
An extensive range of standard equipment for the EQA 300 4MATIC and EQA 350 4MATIC includes LED High Performance headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, EASY-PACK power-opening and closing tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, 64-color ambient lighting, dual cupholder, luxury seats with four-way adjustable lumbar support, a rearview camera for better visibility and maneuvering comfort, and a multifunction leather-trimmed sports steering wheel. The MBUX infotainment system with intuitive controls and a navigation system are also standard.
